My wife Darlene and I are life long Southern Californians both with careers in the Information Technology field. We love to travel, explore new places and decompress from our normal busy schedules. I am an avid surfer and my love for surfing started way back in the mid-seventies at Ventura County beaches and later included a 3-year stint on Oahu and the infamous North Shore. Darlene loves wildlife, eco-tourism, Pina Coladas and long walks on the beach.
Wanting to find a vacation destination where i could enjoy some quality surf time and still offer the amenities that Darlene would enjoy was initially a challenge. A lot of quality surf locations are either very remote with spartan commendations and little else to do for the non-surfer.
The prerequisite was finding a surf location where i could easily just walk out from where we were staying to a surf spot and not spend the entire day driving or on a boat searching for waves. The goal was to find a destination where i could easily get a surf session in the morning and/or late evening and we could spend the rest of the day together exploring or just relaxing.
Our research initially led us to Avellanos, Costa Rica which we enjoyed thoroughly. After getting our feet wet in Costa Rica for a few years, we decided to expand our horizons and see what else Central America had to offer and in 2014 decided to venture to Nicaragua.
We decided that Hacienda Iguana at Playa Colorado on Nicaragua's southern pacific coast met our needs .... easy walking access to multiple quality surf spots and plenty of amenities from horse backing riding to golf to volcano exploring. All it took is one trip in Februray, 2014 to absolutely fall in love and when the opportunity shortly thereafter presented itself we decided to stake roots in this Nicaraguan paradise.
In May 2014, we purchased a 1/4 acre lot within Hacienda Iguana and broke ground on a 2 bedroom/2 bath Casita which will be our future home away from home. Construction was competed in December 2014. We are just starting the landscaping and are planning on adding a private pool in early 2015. We're looking forward to many future trips to Hacienda Iguana and our Casitas and when we're not visiting welcome you to enjoy and experience this Nicaraguan paradise as well.
